Zimmer Residence
South Berwick, Maine

This residential project called for a substantial addition to a 1780's circa home along the Salmon Falls River.  Originally approached from the river side the rear of the house needed to be transformed in to the front.  The formal entry court shown here.

Parting from the traditional style of the front, 120 lineal feet of glass from floor to ceiling brings the river into the house.

The kitchen, a central part of the 'family space', opens up to and looks beyond the semi-formal dining area to the river. The dynamic seasonal and tidal variation of the river become a part of ones life.

The master bath is located at the very end of the home affording the privacy for a back to nature bathing experience.

The organic edge of the grass and stone terrace reflect the sinuous curves of the river edge.
