Most significantly he was involved with the design and presentation of the scheme which led to the firm's competition winning design. He played a primary role in the design of the facades, the entrance foyer, and Jubilee walk, an eloquent passageway between the original museum and the extension. In addition, Maurice was involved with the production of presentation material prepared for the introduction of the building design to the English public. Many of his drawings were displayed in the original National Gallery as a part of this introduction.

Maurice's final contribution was in the construction documentation of key areas of the building, including the 'Way into the Galleries' shown to the right. This passage sets up an illusion based on principles of exaggerated perspective used in Renaissance paintings.
